BFA Degree in Art Education
The
Department of Art Education offers an undergraduate program
which leads to a bachelor of fine arts degree. The program
gives the student the opportunity to specialize in art
education while emphasizing a strong background in the
arts to help the student develop artistic sensitivity,
critical curiosity and perceptual acuity. The program also
assists the student in developing expertise in the utilization
of electronic media in an increasingly technological world.
MAE Degree in Art Education
The Department of Art Education offers a graduate degree that leads to the Master of Art Education (MAE) degree. This degree has two specific tracks – one is for teachers who already hold their license and the other track is for students who already have an undergraduate degree in studio art or a related field and are seeking both a master’s degree and licensure. Both tracks emphasize contemporary art and visual culture, service-learning, interactive technologies, evidence-based research, museum education, and other topics.
Students take Art Education courses and guided electives. Opportunities for personal growth through the MAE Program also include the rich resources of other graduate departments in the university in the visual and performing arts, education (including supervision, administration, and special areas), the natural and social sciences, and the humanities.
