The VCU Dance Center
The VCU Dance Center is the main dance facility for the VCU Department of Dance and Choreography and its curricular activities. Built in 1920, and formerly a Catholic elementary school, the VCU Dance Center currently houses the following spaces:
- seven dance studios with sprung floors, six with floor to ceiling windows;
- media lab studio with video editing station and sound editing station;
- student computer lab with scanner and printers;
- costume shop with washer/dryer and sewing machines;
- student and faculty bathrooms and locker rooms;
- faculty conference room and staff office; and
- community meeting space.
The studios serve as classrooms as well. VCU Dance students have access to studios mornings, afternoons, evenings and weekends during the school year. VCU Dance Center Studio 203 not only serves as the primary technique and rehearsal space, but also offers a class laboratory for creative work. It is equipped for informal showings and large enough for video documentation.
