VCUArts scholarships in dance
A limited number of scholarships are available to prospective VCU dance majors. Candidates are invited to apply based on their departmental audition. Candidates who qualify for a VCU Dance scholarship will receive an invitation to apply by mail following the audition process. Scholarships are based on merit and availability of funding.

Awarding of scholarships will be based on an evaluation of the applicant in each of the following areas:

  1. Talent and potential
  2. Motivation and drive
  3. Grade point average - 3.0 minimum, SATs
  4. Openness to a wide range of ideas
  5. Creativity
  6. Technical skill level
  7. Self-discipline
  8. Commitment to dance
  9. Positive leadership
  10. Commitment to dance in an academic institution
  11. Interest in, as well as commitment to, Virginia Commonwealth University, Department of Dance and Choreography

The scholarship application process will include an interview of the candidate with a VCU dance faculty member or departmental chair.

Students who are invited to apply for this scholarship at an off-campus audition should plan to visit the VCU campus and VCU Dance program prior to attending, to be sure that the program is good match. Applicants must provide the following:

Scholarships will be awarded in amounts up to $2,000 - $8,000 per year and will be renewable for four years based on the student's performance in the dance program (minimum overall GPA of 3.0 and demonstrated excellence in the areas listed above). Students who are invited to apply for this scholarship also should inquire about other scholarship opportunities at VCU.
