ADVISING NOTES FROM CAROLINE HENNE
ENGLISH TAKEN IN COMMUNITY COLLEGES: ENGL 112 taken at the community college is equivalent to ENGL 200 if the course was taken summer 2005 or after. If ENG 112 at the community college was completed before summer 2005, the old rules apply (i.e., students without associate degrees must have completed ENG 111, 112, and a literature and earned at least a B in 112 for all three to be equivalent to ENGL 101, 200, and a literature).
PLACEMENT TESTING IN MATH: If HS GPA > 2.7 and SAT-M score > 410, students will be placed in MATH 131/141. Students not meeting these criteria will be placed into stretch courses. To get into stretch Math 131 sections, they must go to Math Lab and get an override. If students want to take course at 151 level or higher, they must take the math placement test.
- MATH @ VIRGINIA COMMUNITY COLLEGES : Math 163-Precalculus; 166 – Precalculus with Trigonometry; 170 – Foundations in Contemporary Math. to satisfy the requirements for quantity and form for the School of the Arts.
Before a student takes a course at another institution, they should complete the Request to Take Courses at Another Institution form.
