16 - 26 June (M-Th) - 8:30 am to Noon - MUED 620: Research in Music Ed (3) – Greennagel (on-line component to 5 August 2008)
Development of fundamental skills necessary to understand and evaluate research in music education. Focuses on the basic principles, concepts and techniques of research methodology applied specifically to music education. Includes introduction to quantitative, qualitative, ethnographic and historical methodology. An on-line component is a significant aspect of this course.

16 - 27 June (M-F) - 1:00 to 5:00 pm: MUED 583: Choral Conducting and Rehearsal Techniques (3) - Tyree
Rehearsal planning & conducting techniques, performance practices & interpretive gestures, choral diction, score analysis & preparation, and specific study of the choral masterwork to be performed by the Summer Masterworks Chorale. All MME graduate students will be required to take Summer Masterworks Chorale, conduct rehearsals, and be critiqued on their process in rehearsal.
16 June - 11 July (M/W) - 6:00 to 9:00 pm: APPM 390/690 sect 901 : Masterworks Chorale (1)- Tyree
This vocal ensemble will study and rehearse a major work chosen from the vast choral repertoire, culminating with a performance of the work.
Open to all university students for graduate or undergraduate credit, this Chorale will also be open to commuity members at a cost of $40. The course is designed for community outreach, graduate study and provides a summer ensemble credit for undergraduate students.
16- 27 June (M-F) - 1:00 to 5:00 pm: MUED 593: Instrumental Conducting Techniques (3) - Austin
Students in this class will discuss literature, score study strategies, rehearsal techniques, and ensemble motivation issues. Conducting technique and rehearsal technique will be developed by hands on experiences with a workshop band, as well as through guided discussions and classroom sessions. The goal is personal musical growth and enhanced podium effectiveness for each participant.
7 - 18 July (M-F) - 8:00 am to Noon: MHIS583: Music Criticism and Adjudication (3) - Smith
This course will present music educators with an understanding of the history of music criticism, performance practice issues, and strategies for offering practical assessments (adjudications) following performances by musicians on primary, secondary, collegiate, and professional levels.
21 July - 1 August (M-F) - 9:00 am to 1:00 pm: MUED 583: Jazz Improvisation for Music Educators (3) - Garcia
Have you ever been able to find the time to focus on your jazz improvisation skills? Do you feel comfortable assisting your students in this expressive art form? Whether you’re starting from scratch or working on skills long untouched, this class will offer you individual attention and hands-on performing experience in a combo setting. Learn how to address the blues, standards, bossas novas, ballads, and swing tunes for you and your own students. Vocalists and instrumentalists are equally welcome.
