Auditions

Auditions
Membership in all VCU Orchestra Ensembles is determined by auditions that are open to all qualified students. These auditions take place during the first week of classes of each semester, and are heard by the conductors and the appropriate applied music faculty.

Spring 2008 dates
Auditions for the Spring 2008 semester will be held on an individual basis. To schedule an audition and to request audition excerpts, please contact Daniel Myssyk.

String players should fill out an audition form and sign up for a time on the Strings Bulletin Board (Singleton Center, near Rm. 132. String auditions will be held in Room 210 of the Bowe House (917 W. Franklin Street).

Winds, Brass and Percussion students wishing to audition for both the Symphonic Wind Ensemble and the VCUSO may do so with one audition. Students must fill out the Orchestra audition form. Please sign up for an audition during the times set aside for your instrument on the Winds/Brass/Percussion Bulletin Board (Singleton Center, near Rm. 132).

Each audition will five minutes in length. Students are requested to prepare 2 movements from the standard repertoire featuring your instrument piece, excerpts for their instrument (string excerpts are listed below, other excerpts are available at www.vcubands.org) and 2 scales of 3 octaves or more. Students may also be asked to sight-read from the orchestral repertoire.
