Camp Schedule – July 6 - 12, 2008

SUN 7/6

11 a.m. -1 p.m. Dorm Check-in for resident campers (Brandt Hall, 710 W. Franklin Street). Be sure to get lunch with your parents on your own.

1:30 p.m. Van departs for Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School. Limited space available for families. Parents may wish to drive with their student to MLWGS for the Orientation Meeting.

2 p.m. General Assembly Orientation Meeting (Maggie Walker Governor’s School) Parents are required to attend this session

2:30- 5 p.m. Placement Audition: Students will need to perform 2 scales, and a portion of a prepared piece. A short sight-reading excerpt may be provided.

MON - THU: at MLWGS (see sample daily schedule below)

FRI 7/11: at MLWGS

2:45 p.m. Chamber MusicPerformance(free and open to the public) select small ensembles will perform

SAT 7/12: at the VCU Singleton Center for the Performing Arts (922 Park Avenue)

8:30 a.m. Warm-up rehearsal

10:30 a.m. 2008 VCU Summer String Camp Final Performance(free and open to the public)

12 p.m. Brown Bag lunch (optional). Bring your lunch and say goodbye to friends!

Richmond String Shops will display and sell accessories and instruments in the lobby.

12:30 – 2:30 Dorm Check-Out (Brandt Hall, 710 W. Franklin Street)

Please invite family and friends to our Friday and Saturday concerts. It will be a great opportunity to hear your student perform as well as to support these developing musicians!

 

Sample Daily Schedule:

8:30 – 8:55 a.m. Arrival

9 - 9:15 a.m. Morning Session

9:20 - 10:45 a.m. Rehearsal (Strad) stage/private lessons

Sectionals (Amati) rehearsal rooms/private lessons

11 a.m. - 12 p.m. Clinicians or Group activities (guest speakers,, master class, etc.)

12 - 12:45 p.m. Lunch (Cafeteria only), possible recreation time

1 - 2:30 p.m. Rehearsal (Amati) stage (private lessons)

Sectionals (Strad) rehearsal rooms (private lessons)

2:45 - 3:45 p.m. Chamber music or Practice time

3:45 - 4 p.m. Cleanup/ Return to sectional room for sign out.

4:30 - 6 p.m. Private practice/Recreation/Library

6 p.m. – 7 p.m. Dinner

7 – 10 p.m. Evening Activities †

11 p.m. Room Check/Lights Out

Evening activities will include a bluegrass concert with the Whitetop Mountain Band, performance of “Guys and Dolls” musical, viewing the movie “Music from the Inside Out” as well as practice opportunities, socials, movies and more. Feel free to bring board games and cards as well as any chamber music you may want to read with friends.
