All University Concerto/Aria Competition
The All University Concerto and Aria Competition is open to students from the following areas:
Woodwinds
Brass
Percussion
Voice |
Keyboard
Guitar
Strings |
Students must receive a recommendation from a member of their studio’s faculty in order to audition.
Competition:
The competition will be held from 3:30 pm to 7:00 pm in the Sonia Vlahcevic Concert Hall on Oct 22. The winner(s) (maximum of 3) will be determined by a panel of three judges. The final results will be posted on the orchestra board.
Performance: December 1, 2007 (8 pm)
The winner(s) will perform their concerto (one movement) or aria with the VCU Symphony Orchestra on Saturday, December 1, 2007 at 8 p.m. in the Sonia Vlahcevic Concert Hall.
Competition Regulations:
Eligibility: Any full-time student enrolled in a private lesson for the Fall 2007 semester.
Requirements: Solos must be memorized with accompanist except for students who audition as an ensemble.
Length: 7 minutes minimum - 20 minutes maximum. Selection should be a complete work (for shorter pieces) or, in the case of longer works, one movement only.
Instrumentation: Minimum Chamber Orchestra Size (2 2 2 2- 2 2 0 0 tmp- strings)
Repertoire: Standard or Rental. Please have knowledge of score availability prior to audition. Winner(s) must perform the same repertoire as auditioned. Duos up to quintets acceptable. Vocalists may perform concert arias or opera selections.
