The VCU Department of Music is pleased to announce the winner of the Experiencing Villa-Lobos Percussion Composition Competition:

Ken Metz

for his composition Musica visto que Villa-Lobos.

This work will be premiered on Friday, March 28th, 2008.

Dr. Ken Metz, associate professor and past chair of music, teaches music theory, composition, orchestration, and counterpoint at the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas. He received his MM in Music Theory and Composition from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and a Ph.D.
in Fine Arts with an emphasis in Composition from Texas Tech University, where he also served as a full-time instructor of music theory and jazz.
His main research interest is in the relationship of number theory to music theory. He is active as a composer and his music has been performed at music festivals and concerts across the country.
