Musicians
Forrest Young was born in Richmond, Virginia and grew up in Chesterfield County. He studied jazz and classical music at VCU before settling on a degree in Illustration from VCU's Communication Arts and Design. He studied drum with Howard Curtis and Mike Donovon (founder of Drumbum.com). As a student, he supported himself by gigging and by teaching at Don Warner Music, Southern Music Centers, and for private clients. Before graduating, Forrest began doing improvisational jams with pianist/multi-instrumentalist Robert Sanders. What began as occasional stress therapy turned into a vital group of freeform musicians recording wildly original material for the past ten years. To date, they have made over two hundred full-length CDs of unscripted masterpieces. For the past five years, Forrest has enjoyed part-time positions as a pianist and percussionist with the Richmond Ballet and VCU Dance. Since the late 90's, Forrest has drummed in many diverse musical projects, including: Total Freeform, Spectrum, Little Shop of Horrors, Pop Culture Casualties, Schwill, Modern Groove Syndicate, The VCU Jazz Ensemble, The VCU Percussion Ensemble, Quite Steps, Walter Bell's Latin Jazz Unit, Forever Patsy Cline, and The Jim Westlyn Band.
