B.A. Home Fashion Merchandising
Now that we change the 'look' of our living spaces on a frequent basis as compared to prior generations, specialty stores like Williams Sonoma, Crate and Barrel, Pottery Barn, This End Up, Pier One Imports and Rooms-to-Go cater to our desire to create warm and inviting surroundings. With the likes of Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, Laura Ashley and other design houses creating beautiful items for the home, the bridge between fashion for the body and fashion for the home has been drawn.
The Bachelor of Arts in Home Fashion Merchandising is a direct result of this growing industry. Rather than working with apparel like the traditional merchandiser, the home fashion specialist focuses on items for the home, lifestyle and garden. This includes buying, selling, merchandising and visual display. The Home Fashion Merchandising curriculum at VCU parallels the traditional Fashion Merchandising curriculum, but includes additional specialized classes. Graduates find employment in new product development, visual merchandising, retail buying, store management, home decorating and as manufacturers sales representatives.
