FACULTY FOCUS

The participating artists/teachers in the 2001 FACULTY FOCUS are Jude Schlotzhauer and L. C. Thompson, Crafts; Laura Chessin, Communication Arts and Design; Tommy White, Art Foundation; Paula Heneveld, Interior Design; Scott Dupre Mills, Photography and Film; and Christopher Norris and Mason Mills, Sculpture.

This year’s FACULTY FOCUS promises to be more diverse than ever before and will feature work in a wide range of media and styles. The eight solo exhibitions include Jude Schlotzhauer, who will be exhibiting new works in glass, incorporating other manipulated and found materials. L. C. Thompson will show a new body of work in both clay and high relief paper collage. Laura Chessin will present a project installation of text and photographs that address the subtle issues of intimacy and overlapping identities. Tommy White’s paintings reflect his concerns with the current social, psychological, natural and contingent environment. Paula Heneveld will exhibit archeological photographs from the site of Akrotiri, Greece, circa 1500BC showing interior design principles that are based on natural harmonies, spirituality and beauty. Scott Dupre Mills will present a film projection and installation of paintings and mixed media titled, "Elements of Abstraction." Christopher Norris’s sculptures create an area between art object and spectator that he refers to as a "conversation space." Mason Mills will present a video installation.

"One of the more interesting contributions the Anderson Gallery makes every two years is the presentation of the art work produced by its teaching faculty," said Ted Potter, the Anderson Gallery Director. "VCU’s School of the Arts faculty contains a diverse group of outstanding artists."
