The exhibition features 40 original illustrations selected from the Society of Illustrators 43rd Annual National Exhibition. The Society of Illustrators is a national organization of professional artists headquartered in New York City. This year marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Society and also the 20th year that the best of American illustration has been brought to college campuses by the Society. The 40 illustrations on view at the Anderson Gallery were selected from more than 500 examples featured in this year’s published annual. A jury selected the 500 published works from over 6500 original entries.

"The Anderson Gallery is pleased to participate in the tour of the Society of Illustrators 2001-2002 Traveling Exhibition," states Ted Potter, Director. "We feel that our students will gain much from the opportunity of seeing the original art work of these outstanding American illustrators." The exhibition features works in a range of traditional media including oils, watercolor, acrylic, pen and ink, pencil and gouache. Combined with digital and scratchboard they offer the viewer an opportunity to see a wide range of styles currently being used for reproduction in magazines, books, newspapers and print advertising.
