All incoming students to the Kinetic Imaging
program must have a computer and a mini DV camera. The mini DV camera can be any brand
and should be Firewire controllable.
If you are working on an Apple computer, you
should check the Apple website for your camera's compatibility with Final Cut Pro. We also
recommend a tripod, carrying case and an
extra battery for your camera.
Computer
Apple Macintosh or a PC, laptop or tower.
We recommend at least one gigabyte of RAM for
your computer and two hard drives: one for applications, with at least 80GB of memory, and
the second for data (video, animation and sound material), also
with at least 80GB of memory.
PC users should get a Firewire card installed in their computer. For Apple users we recommended a G5 tower or a
G4 15” laptop.
External Firewire hard drives are encouraged.
Recommended speed for hard drives: 7200 rpm. Recommended video editing software: Final Cut Pro for Apple users; and Premier, Vegas Video, Avid DV for PC users.
Other recommended software: Photoshop,
Illustrator, After Effects. Audio editing software is
also encouraged. We teach ProTools in our sound courses, but students may purchase any type of sound editing program they wish.
