Greetings from the Chair

It is a great pleasure to participate in the vibrant community of artists here and it is an honor to Chair one of the best Painting and Printmaking Departments in the United States. During the summer of 1999 we moved into the new fine arts building at 1000 West Broad Street. It is a 114,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility that we share with the Departments of Sculpture and Crafts. Painting and Printmaking occupies the entire third floor and part of the first.

The Painting and Printmaking Department is doing great things and assuming a place of greater significance in the national and international arena. We just completed a Macintosh computer lab and obtained a Giclee large format digital printer. Professor Peter Baldes has joined the faculty to head our new electronic imaging area. We are fast becoming a comprehensive painting and printmaking department for the twenty-first century, offering opportunities for study in painting, printmaking, drawing, theory, electronic media, and new genres.

Alumni - please send us news of what you are doing for publication in our next newsletter, let us know what we can do for you and what you may be able to do to support the Painting and Printmaking Department.

Best,
Richard
