Thomas J. Condon
Adjunct Assistant Professor
MFA in Photography and Film, Virginia Commonwealth University, BFA in Studio Art with a concentration in Painting, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Mr. Condon’s areas of specialization are theory and discourse. Before attending VCU, he practiced as a painter, attending the Chautauqua School of Art. He has been awarded an Artists Fellowship from the Vermont Studio School as well as a Professional Fellowship in Printmaking from the Virginia Museum of Fine Art Foundation. Mr. Condon is a Co-Editor of The Artdisk: a dvd magazine, www.theartdisk.com. He has displayed his work in multiple international art fairs including Scope; New York, ARTdc; Washington D.C. and DiVA; Miami, Florida. Currently his work is represented and shown by ADA Gallery in Richmond, Virginia.
Bryant Dameron
Adjunct Assistant Professor
MFA in Photography and Film, Virginia Commonwealth University, BA in Communication Studies, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Mr. Dameron’s areas of specialization are film production and video art. His films have been screened in festivals across the US, on the nationally syndicated television program “America’s Best Student Shorts” and have won several awards. His work explores the role of simulation in experience and place.
Regula Franz
Adjunct Assistant Professor
MFA in Photography, Virginia Commonwealth University; BA (equiv.) in English, Linguistics, Art History and Anthropology, Universität Basel, Switzerland. Ms. Franz’s areas of expertise are documentary and travel photography, as well as digital fine art printing. Originally from Switzerland, she has lived in Europe and the United States. She has worked as a photojournalist, film location scout and photo editor in Hamburg and Berlin, Germany, and as an instructor of digital photography at various art centers. In 1998, she took a year off to photograph and study in Southeast Asia and Nepal, a region of the world she visits frequently. Her work has been exhibited nationally in solo and group exhibitions, and is included in corporate and private collections. She has won numerous purchase and juror’s awards, and has recently been the recipient of several fellowship residencies in digital imaging at the Anderson Ranch Arts Center in Colorado. Myron Helfgott
Professor Emeritus and Adjunct Graduate Professor
MFA in Sculpture, Southern Illinois University, BA in Design, Southern Illinois University (in addition to 3 years School of Architecture, University of Illinois). Mr. Helfgott has worked in many mediums including wood, cast and welded metal, plastics, kinetic works with electric motors. Currently he is working primarily with photos and audio. Before coming to VCU, he taught sculpture at Edinboro State College and in the Foundation Curriculum at Northern Illinois University. Mr. Helfgott has exhibited widely including the Whitney Museum of American Art, The Glasgow School of Art, IPNA in Lima, Peru, and The Meguro Museum in Tokyo, Japan. Todd Raviotta
Adjunct Assistant Professor
MFA in Filmmaking, Virginia Commonwealth University, BFA in Filmmaking, Virginia Commonwealth University. Mr. Raviotta is a director with experience in all genres of filmmaking and video production. His films have been screened at art galleries and festivals internationally. Raviotta's films mix satire and dark comedy as commentary on human nature and how it is affected by modern media and the influence of corporations on the individual's psyche. As a professional editor Raviotta's work has been showcased on the website for Universal Picture's The Bourne Ultimatum and other websites designed by ProjectC.net Los Angeles. As a producer Raviotta has had a hand in hundreds of short films and several feature films created in Virginia.
Paul Ryan
Distinguished Adjunct Graduate Professor
MFA in Painting, Virginia Commonwealth University, BA in English, Principia College. Mr. Ryan’s is Professor of Art and Department Chair, Department of Art & Art History, Mary Baldwin College. His paintings have been shown in many solo and group exhibitions across the USA, he is the recipient of several fellowships and awards and he has written and spoken extensively about art. Paul’s essays and reviews have been published in Sculpture Magazine and Art Papers.
Heide Trepanier
Distinguished Adjunct Graduate Professor
MFA in Painting, Virginia Commonwealth University, BFA Marchutz School of Art, Aix, France and The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Ms. Trepanier’s paintings have been shown in numerous solo and group shows, including shows at Stux Gallery and The American Academy of Arts and Letters in New York, and La Pilar Parra Galleria in Madrid. In her work Heide exploits the fluidity of paint to give form to situations that are bewildering and often violent. Her highly stylized pictures offer a deliberately slick take on the pyrotechnics of 1950s Action Painting. According to Trepanier, the parts within her compositions: “Misbehave, throw up on each other, have orgies, rip each other apart, become divas, destroy small towns, and produce other worlds.” www.htrepanier.com
