"I would like to make a series of gel molds of my open eye, so I can study the precise disposition of lids and the folds of tissues around them within the orbit as the eye moves right and left, up and down, even into and out of focus.

A sculptor has a special set of problems depicting the eye in a self portrait. I want to get all around the eye: above it, below it, behind it, see what it's doing when it rotates. It is an invasive instinct, for which a mirror, or mirrors, are insufficient. At the instant I look, I change what I'm trying to see. If the eye lights up, what does that look like? Or if it is "looking within"? Or into the future? I need an eye for an eye..."
