  Quizzing Glass
1988-99

An 24 x 19 x 12 inch niche in the wall forms a small darkened "theater." A tiny animation of a mechanical eye, occasionally blinking, is rear-projected on a screen the size of a dime, mounted in the rear plane of the niche. Nearby stands the actual eye. The eye is life size, 7/8 inch diameter, made of cast acrylic, with movable wood eyelids. It can be rotated on an internal ball and socket joint, and it is mounted in an adjustable brass orbit. The eyeball itself was made in collaboration with ocularist Earle Schreiber.
