Professional Experience: · Associate Professor of Marketing at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Business, 1992 - present· Assistant Professor of Marketing at VCU, 1986-1992· Previously on the faculty of Boston College School of Management, 1980-1986· Chair, Department of Marketing, from July 2002 - July 2008. Active with numerous project teams, task forces, advisory groups, and committees, both within the university and in the business and public communities, serving as leader, member, and/or consultant· Board Member and current Chair of the American Marketing Association Global Marketing Special Interest Group. Faculty Advisor to the Fast Track Executive MBA Program at VCU, 1998-2001.
Teaching: · Graduate and undergraduate courses include Product Development & Management, Marketing Management, Marketing Principles, and Marketing Research. Extensive supervision of graduate student project teams that conduct International Market Planning (IMP) studies for companies seeking to start or expand export operations and for life science and biotech companies seeking to commercialize their technology developments. Special topic presentations and short courses include the product development process, technology forecasting, creating a climate for innovation, the market orientation as a culture, and a marketing management simulation exercise.
Research: Research concentrates on two areas: (1) innovation/product development and (2) global marketing. Current interests include the commercialization of emerging technologies by small & medium sized enterprises (SMEs), open innovation and collaboration for NPD, including joint university-industry technology developments, globalization and SMEs, global marketing entry strategy, and international brand management.
