Profile: Professor, is a member of the doctoral faculty in the management program. His current research interests focus on leadership, and on cognitive and emotional processes in organizations, especially with regard to empathy, emotional labor, emotional intelligence, identity theory, performance appraisals, personnel selection, assessment centers, group dynamics, and decision-making. Much of his research concerns how the type of work that we do influences how we are perceived by others. He has also published several articles on the role of emotions at work and on how emotional displays can influence service effectiveness and employee morale. He published the edited book, Affect and Emotion: New Directions in Management Theory and Research, in 2008. He is currently writing a leadership textbook for SAGE. Professor Humphrey has published in the Academy of Management Review, Research in Organizational Behavior, American Sociological Review, Social Psychology Quarterly, Basic and Applied Social Psychology, Human Relations, Organization Science, Journal of Health and Social Behavior, Public Opinion Quarterly, and other leading journals. He has presented numerous papers at conferences throughout Canada, UK and the U.S. Dr. Humphrey is a member or former member of the Academy of Management, the American Sociological Association, the Midwest Academy of Management, the Administrative Sciences Association of Canada, and the International Federation of Scholarly Associations in Management. Dr. Humphrey received a Presidential Citation from President Reagan. President Reagan mentioned Dr. Humphrey's research from the Journal of Health and Social Behavior during a State of the Union Address. This same research was also the subject of numerous new stories in the national press. Dr. Humphrey's other articles have also been widely cited in textbooks and academic articles, and he has over a thousand citations.

Professional Experience: Claims Reviewer for the Social Security Administration and worked at two different survey research and marketing organizations.

Teaching: Professor, is a member of the doctoral faculty in the management program. He has served as Doctoral Coordinator for the program, and he is a former department chair. He has taught Leadership and Project Team Management; Organizational Behavior; Cognitive and Affective Processes; Senior Project; Strategic Human Resource Management.
