Description   The Conciliation Project presents their highly acclaimed show, uncle tom: deconstructed, in connection with the VCU Year of Freedom commemorating the 150-year anniversary of the Civil War and the Emancipation Proclamation. The production is presented as a part of The CARE Initiative, funded by a grant from The Quest Fund, awarded by the President of VCU as a part of The Quest For Distinction. The event will be held at the Grace Street Theater, 934 W, Grace Street, at 7:30 PM Friday, March 29 and Saturday, March 30th and on Sunday, March 31st at 4:00 PM. The event is free and open to the public. uncle tom: deconstructed weaves together story, song, poetry and dance as it unmasks and interrogates the correlations to blackface minstrelsy as a direct predecessor to current racist stereotypes within communities of color. In 2011 uncle tom: deconstructed was nominated for an award from Amnesty International at Edinburgh Fringe Theatre Festival in Scotland. Contact: Andrienne Wilson, 804-477-6453.
