Dr. Larry J. Williams joined the faculty of Virginia Commonwealth University (V.C.U.) as University Professor of Management in August of 1997, and shortly thereafter he was also appointed as Research Professor of Psychology and Professor of Health Administration. Previously, he was an Associate Professor and Jay Ross Young Faculty Scholar at the Krannert School of Management of Purdue University (1987-1996) and the Fisher Distinguished Scholar in the Industrial/Organizational Psychology program at the University of Tennessee (1996-1997).

Among his recent accomplishments, Dr. Williams was selected to be the recipient of the 2005 Distinguished Career Contributions Award by the Academy of Management ’s Research Methods Division (which has over 1200 members). In 2004, he was recognized by the Southern Management Association as an author of 2 of the 6 most highly cited articles in the 30 year history of the Journal of Management. He was also elected in 2004 to be a member of the Society for Organizational Behavior, an international group of approximately 80 leading scholars from the field of organizational behavior.

Dr. Williams received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in psychology from Purdue University and a Ph.D. in organizational behavior from the Indiana University School of Business. He has taught organizational psychology and behavior, human resources management, and research/quantitative methods at undergraduate, masters (MBA/MS), and doctoral levels, in both management and psychology departments. He is former Faculty Advisor for the School of Business Doctoral Programs , Chair of the School of Business Research Steering Committee , and Chair of the School of Business Doctoral Program Planning Committee at V.C.U..

Dr. Williams’ main research interests involve the application of structural equation methods to various substantive and methodological concerns. His substantive research has included studies of pro-social, citizenship, and helping behaviors in organizational settings, with a special focus on the predictive role of employee attitudes. In the research methods area, Professor Williams’ recent efforts have focused on problems related to the use of survey methods in organizational research and the application of advanced data analysis techniques to these problems. This stream of research has primarily investigated problems associated with common method variance. He has published in a variety of leading organizational outlets, including the Academy of Management Journal , the Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of Management, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Journal of Vocational Behavior, and Research in Organizational Behavior. He has also authored several book chapters on research methods topics.

Dr. Williams was the Founding Editor of Organizational Research Methods (ORM), a journal sponsored by the Research Methods Division (RMD) of the Academy of Management and published quarterly by Sage. He previously served as Consulting Editor for the Research Methods and Analysis section of the Journal of Management (1993-1996). He has been a member of the editorial boards of Structural Equation Modeling: A Multidisciplinary Journal, and the Strategic Management Journal. Dr. Williams has served as Chairperson for the Research Methods Division (RMD) of the Academy of Management, and for over 10 years was a member of the RMD Executive Committee. He has been an active developer and participant of various RMD activities with a continuing education focus, such as “Ask The Expert” sessions at national and regional meetings of the Academy of Management .

Professor Williams currently serves as Director of the Center for the Advancement of Research Methods and Analysis (CARMA). CARMA is an interdisciplinary center devoted to helping faculty and students advance their knowledge of social science research methods and data analysis techniques. Since its inception, CARMA has hosted over 80 events in a variety of formats, including colloquia speakers, visiting lecturers, half and full day workshops, and three 3-day mini-conferences.

 

Dr. Jeni Burnette (up)
Assistant Director for Programs

Jeni L. Burnette received her Ph.D. from Virginia Commonwealth University in Social Psychology. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her research focuses on self-regulation and methodological issues and analytic techniques. Specifically, she studies how implicit theories influence forgiveness in romantic relationships and motivation in dieting, and also examines model fit in structural equation modeling. She is currently the program coordinator for the Center for the Advancement of Methods and Analysis and is in the psychology department at the University of Richmond.

 

Evandro Moreno (up)
Assistant Director for Technol5/15/08o is a Ph.D. student in Information Systems at the Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of Business, where he graduated from the Master of Information Systems program in 2003. Evandro received his undergraduate degree in Psychology in 1991 and his M. A. in Social Psychology in 2000, both from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. Evandro’s research areas of interest are Information Systems Security and E-Business. He has served as a marketing and strategic planning consultant to several small businesses and governmental agencies in his birth country, Brazil.
