Description:  The Director of Assessment will provide leadership, expertise, and support for VCUs assessment efforts in its academic programs and academic support units, and to direct outcomes assessment of the undergraduate learning and engagement initiatives contained in the VCU 2020 strategic plan. The Director does this primarily through a network of assessment contacts throughout the institution and in collaboration with members of the Office of the Vice Provost for Academic and Faculty Affairs, the Office of the Vice Provost for Instruction, and VCUs Center for Institutional Effectiveness. Position duties include, but are not limited to: Development and oversight of comprehensive outcomes assessment plans and processes at the institution level, particularly those mandated by the Commonwealth of Virginia (e.g. Core Competencies), required by accrediting organizations, or related to institution-wide initiatives; regular communication and consultation with academic programs and academic support units regarding unit-level assessment plans and processes and unit-level participation in institutional assessment activities; and support for VCUs regular review of academic programs and activities related to accreditation (i.e., SACS and discipline-specific).
Qualifications:  Masters degree (Ph.D. preferred) in a relevant discipline or field, and at least five years of experience as an assessment professional at a college or university, or comparable mix of education and experience. Exemplary attention to detail and data accuracy; excellent time and project management skills; excellent oral and written communication skills; extensive experience with data analysis and application of research and statistical methods; extensive background with word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and statistical software; technical knowledge of querying tools, database management, and report writers.
