| Description: This position will be responsible for teaching English composition and literature courses in a multicultural learning environment at the undergraduate level in the Liberal Arts & Sciences Program (LAS). The programs curriculum centers on the teaching of writing in an ESL context. All courses are taught on a rotational basis to allow each faculty member an opportunity to experience the full breadth of course offerings. Successful candidates must be prepared to work with honors students embedded in mainstream courses. As teaching faculty, candidates are required to maintain regular office hours to assist students in meeting academic objectives. Small class sizes (typically 10:1 ratio), enable faculty to work closely with students on an individual basis. Faculty members teach 15 credits per year, typically on a 2/3 or 3/2 split across fall and spring semesters. Candidates are required to engage in the development and delivery of significant research. Requirements for research include writing with the goal of publishing in academic journals or other forms of professionally recognized publications and presenting at academic conferences. Faculty members are expected to advise students, support the objectives of the program, provide service to the university, Qatar and the profession, and to perform all other duties as assigned. Successful candidates will join a team of 16 highly collaborative and dynamic faculty members in the LAS Program. Courses offered within this program are congruent with those offered on the home campus of Virginia Commonwealth University. VCUQatar fosters a multicultural sensitivity consistent with living and teaching in the Middle East region. Our students come from many countries and cultures, as do other employees of VCUQatar, and as a result, it is imperative that successful candidates are able to interact and thrive in such a culturally diverse context. | |
