Description: Understand the proper use of your PC and properly protect it from external network threats. This session is an introduction and provides tips for safely browsing the Internet as well information on how users can be safe on VCU networks.

  • Identify virus protection software and why it is needed
  • Understand Sophos, the new anti-virus product VCU offers
  • Locate and properly install Spyware protection software
  • Conduct safe Internet surfing
  • Delete computer cookies and temporary files
  • Safely download programs from the Internet
  • Understand Domain security for VCU networks
  • Keep software patches and security fixes up-to-date
  • Use a personal firewall and to ensure it is turned on
