Prerequisites:

Basic/working knowledge of Microsoft Windows.

The workbook for this class is "PASW 18.0 Brief Guide" (165 pages). It is recommended that your print your own copy of this workbook and bring it with you to class: PASW 18.0 Brief Guide.

If you do not bring this workbook to class, copies will be available for use during class, but these cannot be removed from the classroom.

Note: SPSS was formerly called PASW.

Learning Objectives:
  • Navigate the PASW Windows interface (Ch 1)
  • Open and save PASW tables (Ch 1)
  • Run analyses using the Analyze Menu (Ch 1)
  • Read data in text format into PASW (Ch 2)
  • Read data in Excel format into PASW (Ch 2)
  • Add cases using the Data Editor (Ch 3)
  • Define variable attributes such as variable labels, value labels and missing data (Ch3)
  • Edit records using the Data Editor (Ch 3)
  • Compute new variables including date/time variables (Ch 9)
  • Use functions and conditional expressions (Ch 9)
  • Create categorical variable from a scale variable (Recode data values ) (Ch 9)
